The folded and crinkled ancient landscape is spectacular by air

Arkaba shares a common border with the dramatic natural amphitheatre of Wilpena Pound, the jewel in the crown of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges.

The pound has been formed by some of the oldest rocks in the world and holds great significance for the local indigenous Australian people, the Adnyamathanha people.

There is no better way to explore this ancient landscape than a jaw-dropping helicopter safari.  Hugging Wilpena Pound and our Elder mountain Range and then swooping down into Brachina and Edeowie Gorges is quite frankly just exciting.

Your helicopter safari starts on the lawn right by the Arkaba Homestead and will take you over Wilpena Pound and the ancient ramparts of the Flinders Ranges. Passing over Rawnsley Bluff, down the spine of the Pound, weaving amongst the cliffs of the incredible Heysen Range and low level through Brachina Gorge. Break left onto the flats with Lake Torrens in the distance before touching down at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna for a gourmet platter of ‘feral food’ (or something else that takes your fancy). We’re back in the helicopter for round two tracking south along the old railway and through Edeowie Gorge, around St Mary’s Peak and west along Arkaba’s spectacular Elder Range. You’ll admire Arkaba’s walking trails and spot wildlife from the air before landing at the Arkaba Homestead in time for a sundowner drink on top of the ranges.
